In my own experiences with multi-tasking I find myself being so productive, but also having a short attention span as well. Being a college student the word multi-tasking is embedded in our brains from day one because we are so bombarded with class work so often. I know for myself I want to get all my work done as quickly as possible so I can have more time in the day to do other things that I much rather do. I think that I get a lot done and in some cases I do, but when it comes to having electronics in front of me, I seem to have my phone right there at my convenience. I can finish a 5 page essay and read about 20 or more pages, but between that times of multi-tasking I get distracted by social media and the internet which actually slows down my productive time. When I see someone else multitask like my mom for example, she can cook dinner help my brothers and sisters with their homework, and wash the dinner dishes. I think this has to do with the lack of technology that older generations use so they are able to get more done than us because we now live in a technology driven society.
So my position in multitasking in classrooms is that it shouldn’t be done. Especially around other students because we tend do things when we see other people doing them. While the student thinks that multitasking is the easiest alternative out of things, it is actually hurting them in the long run. I feel like the majority of students who do multitask in class also are procrastinators and I’ll admit that I am guilty of this as well. After reading the articles about multitasking I now want to make that change because I do found myself having a lack of concentration foe certain tasks that I have to perform.
